Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead (2008) Review:

This second opus of the Joy Ride franchise picks up the story where the first movie left it, with Rusty Nail, the maniac truck driver, heading home only to find that some teens have broken into his home and stolen his car. As in the first movie, he will stalk them, play the sick game with them and hunt them until their very end.

Whereas the first movie was surprisingly excellent, I found this sequel globally forgettable. It basically copies the original but doesn’t bring anything new nor improve previous flaws. I normally expect from a good sequel to develop more on the character’s background, their story and to fill the story gaps from the original. Here, there is no such thing here. The movie simply brings a new set of characters as meat for a new hunting game, and still, nothing is known about the killer.

The only good thing about this sequel is the games. Just like it is fun to watch the traps in Saw or The Collector, here it is fun to discover the new challenges that Rusty Nails will impose to its victims. Most of these games are quite fun, especially the dice roll one, uplifting the overall interest of this otherwise bland sequel.
