Curse of Chucky (2013) Review:
This sixth episode of the Chucky series is a glorious effort to lift the franchise out of the slasher parody genre it was burying itself in. The movie is really different from the latest Child’s Play sequels and tends to resemble more the first 1988’s movie.
The doll itself has been remade and is much scarier than the original. The plot is ten times better than any of the previous Chucky movies. But the most important is probably how well the movie was directed, and I would like to give an internet-high-five to Don Mancini (who is the writer of the all Chucky series, and director of Seed of Chucky) for the fantastic camera effects. Basic scenes such as the poisoned soup end up being so well-imaged that it creates almost Hitchcockian suspense!
The only drawback was the bad CGI effects, and especially the gory scenes. Those were fake-looking and distracted me from the movie altogether. But this remained a minor defect in comparison to the fun that this movie was. Easily one of the best movies of the entire franchise!
