From Beyond (1986) Review:

Loosely based on the short story of the same name by H. P. Lovecraft, From Beyond comes as a very bizarre horror/sci-fi movie. It has the feeling of a Cronenberg movie, but with the directing touch of Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, Dolls, Castle Freak, etc.).

Instead of the story itself, the movie’s weird atmosphere is what will draw you into it. At times you will really wonder “what the fuck is happening” (e.g. the SM scene). This not to say that the story is bad, on the opposite, the concept of the movie is based on a very interesting idea – but the plot and the characters used are very basic. The various monstrosities that appear from the visions are yet the best reason to watch that movie. A mixture of body horror and cool monsters with absolutely splendid practical special effects.

A must-watch for horror/sci-fi fans.
