A private detective is asked by a devil-looking client to investigate on the disappearance of Johnny Favorite, a singer from before the war.
Angel Heart (1987) Review:
Inspired by the novel Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg, Angel Heart is a supernatural horror thriller/crime directed by genius director Alan Parker (Evita, Midnight Express, Pink Floyd The Wall, etc.).
The film follows the investigation of detective Harry Angel, played wonderfully by Mikey Rourke in what might be one of his best roles if you ask me. The story is fascinating and unfolds really smoothly. Harry Angel gets to meets a fantastic set of colorful and disturbing character along the way, making the mystery deeper and deeper as the movie goes,. The devil himself is played brilliantly by Robert DeNiro, but what really made the buzz at the film release was the presence of Lisa Bonet (from the Cosby Show), including her performance in a very hot sex scene.
Quickly, the film takes a supernatural turn as our detective steps into a world of a religious fanatic and voodoo-like rites. In many ways, this film reminds of Wes Craven’s The Serpent and the Rainbow, released less than a year apart. As in the latter, the story is fascinating and the movie, almost 2 hours long, impossible to stop.
Every horror lover who hasn’t seen this one yet should put it first on their watch-list.
