Zombie (1979) Review:

Let start like this: Zombie is one of my top 3 favorite zombie movies.

The story is very convincing and the first part of the movie really drags you into that troubling, oppressive atmosphere. The tropical island setting adds to this and creates an almost claustrophobic feeling. This not the usual zombie movie where a horde of living dead come and get killed by heroic characters. Here, at least in the first ¾ of the movie, there are only very few zombies but they are all very important; and each of their apparition leads to an almost-cult scene. For example, the scene with the underwater zombie and the shark is unforgettable! The deaths are really gruesome and, in the pure Fulci style, there is a lot of gore. The old special effects are especially convincing here, and much more graphic than any computer-generated picture would have been.

To this, you had a perfect soundtrack, which truly helps at creating this very intense ambiance, and what you got is a pure moment of zombie awesomeness! A must watch for…everyone!
