Seed (2006) Synopsis:
The story of a maniac killer who is sent to the electric chair and buried alive, only to raise back from its grave and carry on with the killings.
Seed (2006) Review:
Slashers are not as popular nowadays as they use to be, so it is always a great surprise to come across one that is in the pure style of those greast 80’s classics. The one that Seedresembles most is Friday the 13th, especially the killer, who is masked and kills brutally, without passion and always really efficiently.
The success of slasher movies in the 80’s came partly from the gore which, at the time, was pretty spectacular. So it is without surprise that modern slashers such as this one (or Hatchet) are extremely gory too. The amount of violence is really impressive here… and might be even too much for some. The animal violence videos in the introduction are useless to the movie, and the long scene where the killer hits a woman in the face with a hammer makes the movie fall into the torture porn genre.
The storyline is not bad for a slasher (at least on paper), with quite a few things actually happening. But in the end, everything is just pretext for slaughter, with pursuit and killing scenes that often last too long to remain entertaining. I was especially bored by a 20 minutes flashback narrating how they caught the killer in the first place, that end up being just another series of kills.
Overall, this slasher should please fans of this forgotten genre and gore lovers. Personally, I was bored after 30 minutes because of the movie generic and predictable aspect.
