Saw IV (2007) Synopsis:
Following Jigsaw’s death, a group made of two FBI profilers, a detective and a SWAT agent are tangled into the final works and will of Jigsaw.
Saw IV (2007) Review:
At the end of Saw III, both Jigsaw and her apprentice Amanda are dead, and probably this could have been the end of a great horror series. But as usual, producers always want to make more money and so Saw IV came out one year later. From this film on, the Saw series somehow loses its interest. One can really feel that Leigh Whannell and James Wan did not contribute to writing the scenario here. The story is far less interesting and the way the new writers put Jigsaw’s work back on screen is really far-fetched, resulting in a film that dramatically lacks credibility.
As in the initial trilogy, they tried to make a very convoluted story with a twisted ending, but here it just does not work as well here. The characters are a bit lame, the usual detective and some cops. Actually, the similar look of the main protagonists (Strahm and Hoffman) kept confusing me throughout the all film, which I found really hard to follow.
The only interest of this film is then the new traps. They are not exceptional in this one, except maybe for the first one: “Eyes Sewn shut”. To conclude, Saw IV really marks the beginning of the Saw series downfall.
