Synopsis:
After being rescued from the infected building in [REC]2, young reporter Angela wakes up in what appears to be an isolated boat controlled by the army and a group of unscrupulous doctors.
Review:
The [REC] series features so far three great movies, and this fourth, solid on every aspect, is certainly not one to lower the overall quality of the franchise.
The movies bring back some of the actors from the first three movies, including the return of the series star Angela (played by the beloved Manuela Velasco). It starts slowly, maybe too slowly for some, and tend to resemble your usual action/catastrophe flick at first. Fortunately, it gets much better as soon as zombies start to appear (towards the middle of the movie). A few good twists come to spice up the story at about the same time – making the second of the movie breath-taking.
But the best thing about remains the action scenes. The movie is really gory, flirting with splatter/comedy at times (like was doing) while keeping a dark an oppressive atmosphere. The special effects, most of the great practical prostheses and impressive makeups, are worthy of the best zombie movies.
The movie is by no mean a masterpiece, but way above the average too. A great addition to what now appears as the most solid modern horror franchise.
