Livide (2011) Review:
Livide is the second film by the tandem Bustillo & Maury, the first one being the internationally acclaimed Inside(2007), a dark home invasion flick with crazy suspense. As with Inside, Livide surprises by how dark it is, balancing dark/gothic atmosphere with beautiful colors and really gory scenes. From a visual point of view, the result is very impressive.
The movie takes a long time to get started and, as the characters get into the house, the suspense gets gradually thicker. Livide manages to keep a very good intensity level for quite some time.
Most people will, however, find the story too basic. The main problem comes from the end. As soon as the mystery is revealed, the movie loses its interest. The final part tries to bring some paranormal element to the story, but ends up being messy and didn’t make much sense to me. Before the climax, Livide has already lost its suspense and ruined its overall atmosphere. Too bad, I think this one had some potential but failed on the finish line.
