Laid to Rest (2009) Review:

Laid to Rest is similar to modern neo-slasher such as Hatchet or Seed, mostly based on the gore aspect, at the expense of a story.

The first thing that shocked me was the contrast between the low budget special aspects of the camera work and the cast of famous actors such as Richard Lynch or Lena Headey (Cersei from Games of Thrones). Quickly, the extremely gory and brutal tone of the movie overpowers everything else. To me, that felt like too much and even felt like a comedy at times…unwillingly since the movie seems to try to be serious and dark.

The killer is interesting. He always carries a camera on his shoulder… something I feel should have been used a lot more to have the movie stand out from the crowd. Instead, Laid to Rest is way too generic a slasher. It feels like an accumulation of murder scenes overlaid on top of 90 minutes of an action/pursuit – with a completely inexistent story.

For me, the cheap aspect of the filming and linearity of the scenario completely turned me off and I had a very hard watching that movie until the end. For this, I can only recommend it to those looking for their daily shoot of gore.
