Freddy Vs Jason (2003) Review:
Every horror fan was waiting for a clash between two giant slasher icons to meet, finally in 2003, Freddy vs. Jason hit theaters. What impressed me most about the highly sought after Freddy vs. Jason crossover was the coherent story the writers managed to piece together. Freddy’s story and character was a lot stronger but this gave room for Jason to get a few more kills in.
The story managed to succeed and entertain, but the casting and acting was atrocious. There was some pretty cringy, awful lines throughout the film by many of the characters. Monica Keena and Jason Ritter as the main protagonist didn’t really shine at all, and I don’t think I’d be going out on a limb saying the supporting cast was much better. In contrast, Robert Englund had one of his better performances here, acting as a more traditional Freddy that we saw in earlier films. However, my eyes rolled a few times when I saw Freddy’s kung-fu scenes, obviously brought in by director Ronny Yu.
I thought Ronny Yu put out a decent film, which didn’t disappoint in the kills department, in this highly anticipated union between the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises.
