30 Days of Nights (2007) Synopsis:
Barrow is a small town in Alaska in which the winter comes as one long night lasting for 30 days. This is precisely the time chosen by a horde of ancient vampires to invade and decimate everyone in town. The story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction.
Josh Hartnett (The Black Dahlia, Pearl Harbor) crosses over to the dark side in this bone-chilling adaptation of the cult-hit graphic novel, brought to the screen in all its demonic glory. In a small Alaskan town, thirty days of night is a natural phenomenon. Very few outsiders until a band of bloodthirsty, deathly pale vampires mark their arrival by savagely attacking sled dogs. But soon they find there is a much more satisfying life.
30 Days of Nights (2007) Review:
The strength of this movie is probably the design of the vampires, who are really freaky, have their own language, act as a family, etc. The makeups and the special effects also play a big role and make this movie very graphic and colorful, a pleasure to watch. The plot is relatively basic but somehow this works fine for this movie. Maybe it is because, for once, the reactions of the characters are not stupid like in so many movies, and so you really feel like you are going through this nightmare with them. 30 days of night is a great and very well-realized vampire movie.
