No, I'm not an idiot.  Not a complete idiot at least.

Obviously I know STAR TREK isn't horror but the film does have genre connections, lots of them.  J.J. ABRAM's. SIMON PEGG and the CLOVERFIELD monster just to name a few.  Let me explain.

First, lets actually talk about the film.  Know what?  It's great.  Not good but great.  From the first frame STAR TREK grabs hold and does not let go till the last scene dims.  You really can't talk to much about this film without getting into major plot spoilers soooo, lets talk about little things.

The acting is top notch and they are new, young faces that really bring a fresh perspective to what had become a kind of stale and dated franchise of films.  No stale here.  Lots of action, lots of fun.

I mentioned above that the film is directed by J.J. ABRAMS who of course is the man behind LOST, FRINGE and CLOVERFIELD. Abrams does a stellar job on this one bringing a slick look all the while remaining true to the source material.  Old fans will rejoice at the "in" jokes and new fans will find themselves quickly sucked into the quick paced storyline.

SIMON PEGG, who of course we all know as SHAUN shows up late in the film as SCOTTY and it easy to see why they waited till so late in the film to bring him on board.  He steals the show although I really didn't care much for the inclusion of his little sidekick (you'll understand when you see the film) as it for me detracted somewhat from Peggs performance.  Even given that though his performance is one of the main reasons you really need to see this film

And I'm not 100% sure on this one but in one the scenes when KIRK gets kicked off the ENTERPRISE and banned to a frozen island he quickly meets up with a beast that I'm pretty sure is the CLOVERFIELD monster.  Check it out and see if you don't agree.  I'm going to have to watch CLOVERFIELD again as it's been a while but I'm thinking I'm  pretty sure that it's him making a little monster cameo.  It all adds to the fun though.

In the end the film ends up mainly being about the crew of the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE and how under the most extreme of circumstance friendships that will last forever and in some cases possibly change their world are forged.

We'll be se aeing lot more STAR TREK films and I'm thinking as long as they keep this team together that will be a very good thing.
