I come from the generation that watched the first FRIDAY THE 13th in the theaters as I did the second and 3D installment. A feat that a ton of current horror film fans have never had the chance to do. Actually most have only seen them on TV. It always makes me smile a little to listen to younger horror fans lament about how the first F13 film that they witnessed was Part 7 or Part 8. Makes me feel pretty damn old actually.
What a confusing series of films the franchise must be to those who have watched them out of order. Can you imagine watching the original film after watching a few of the later additions to the franchise?
No actual JASON in the first one, no hockey mask till part three? What the hell is going on?
Thanks to Paramont you can relive the original horror on DELUXE EDITION DVD as they have released FRIDAY THE 13th UNCUT, FRIDAY THE 13th PART 2 and FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3 in 3D for the first time on DVD.
Great, must have releases for any moderate fan of the films.
The original come to us in an uncut version that has been mastered in Hi-Def so it looks better then ever (this one is also available in Blu-Ray for those of you with the player) and a new 5.1 audio track so this one looks and sounds about as good as you can get.
The main fun comes though with the ass load of new special features.
A commentary track with Sean Cunningham and assorted cast and crew.

A FRIDAY THE 13th Reunion which is some convention footage with a bunch of the cast and crew from the film. Very entertaining and enlightening.
Something called LOST TALES FROM CAMP BLOOD PART ONE. These are little indie film looking things that really have nothing to do with F13 and seem a little out of place. There are 1 installment of these on each disc.
Just the way that the new disc looks and sounds alone is enough of a reason to run out and get this one and the fact that it is no UNCUT, although there is really not that much more new footage, make this one a must have for the F13 completeist.
PART TWO is a great little film. I had actually forgotten how much I actually liked this one. It is a slick presentation and worth another look if you haven't seen it in a while. Special features are a little more sparce on this disc but what is there is very well done and worth a look. We've got:
Inside "CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES" which is a behind the scenes look at the amazing book.
Also, FRIDAYS LEGACY HORROR CONVENTIONS
JASON FOREVER and another one of those LOST TALES FROM CAMP BLOOD installments.
And then the biggie, at least for me, FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3 in 3D! I hadn't seen this one in 3D since watching it in theaters many years ago. I have heard a lot of folks say that the 3D didn't work for them but for me it worked very well. I have a projector with DLP so maybe that made a difference. I didn't watch it on a standard TV so I can't attest to that but in a home theater setting it worked quite well.
The film is also on the disc in a regular 2D version as well just in case the 3D ain't doing it for you. You do get 2 pair of 3D glasses.
No special features on this one but who care? You got the film in 3D. It rocks.
Loved all three of these discs and I can't urge you strong enough to head on out and pick these up.
