After a noticeable absence from the theatrical horror film scene, John Carpenter, who last made GHOST OF MARS in 2001, will return in 2010 with THE WARD, a psychological horror thriller that he is directing for Echo Lake Entertainment and A Bigger Boat (gotta love that name).

The story concerns a young woman (Amber Heard of ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE and the upcoming remake of THE STEPFATHER and ZOMBIELAND) who ends up in a psychiatric hospital.  She meets other young women with personality disorders and comes to realize that a strange young girl is haunting the ward's hallways at night (too bad it isn't the ghost of Randall Patrick McMurphy or Charlie Cheswick - that would be really crazy).

Also on board is Danielle Panabaker (from the remakes of FRIDAY THE 13TH and the upcoming THE CRAZIES) and
Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep's daughter).
