When Platinum Dunes remake of F13 hit theaters just a few short months ago it opened big and died a quick and expected death hence the quick turnaround to DVD.  With a name like THE KILLER CUT you would expect this DVD to be just jam packed with all kinds of JASON goodness.  Truth be told this is one of the weakest F13 DVD releases I have ever seen.  In this day and age of filming everything that happens on a movie set it is hard to believe that this paltry bit of offerings is the best they could come up with.

The film itself is as predictable yet entertaining as it was when I viewed it in that packed midnight viewing.  There are parts of this film that I like a lot and there are parts that I despise.  Actually that can be said for quite a few films that I view.  This one has a little more good stuff then most but with that being said, the lame parts are super lame.

A lot of the stuff that I hear folks bitching about on line is actually t he stuff that I kind of liked.  I liked the fact that JASON runs.  I like the fact that JASON has a brain behind that hockey mask.  Seriously, think about it.  What is more scary a big dead bulk wearing a hockey mask or an intelligent, nimble killing machine wearing a hockey mask.  I hope that as the revamped series continues they keep JASON human and don't veer off into that silly "supernatural JASON" territory.  I know I sure don't want to see "worm Jason" ever again.

Anyway, back to this DVD.  The story line follows early VORHEE'S lore as we see Mrs. Vorhee's beheaded and our young JASON forever scared by the events.  Flash to modern day and of course a horny group of drug seeking 20 somethings are wondering around JASON'S lake and old bag head don't think much of that at all.  Once that first group of kids is offed we get into the meat and potatoes of the film as a brother of one of the earlier kills shows up tp find his sister.  This is where we start getting into the parts of the story that a lot of F13 fans seem to turn their nose up at.  We see JASON as an expert bow man.  We see JASON apparently knows how to run electric wires and dig eleborate tunnels.  We find out that JASON is a hunter who uses his victims as bait to lure out other victims.  All these things are new to JASON fans as we are used to only seeming him as the "madman that can't be killed".

I have to admit though, I kind of like it.  The sure to be made sequels to this revamping will hopefully build upon this new JASON background and bring us many more years of blood spewing insanity.

This FRIDAY THE 13th is not for everyone.  You hard core JASON lovers may find this retelling a bit distasteful.  All you can do is try to go in with an open mind and let these guys try to tell you their JASON story.  If you can let yourself you might just find that you enjoy it.
