Mark Romanek has been confirmed as the director for Universal's update of The Wolf Man. The film, starring Benicio Del Toro as the lycanthrope, is due for release November 18th of this year. Romanek's previous credits include the feature-length thriller One Hour Photo, and touchstone music videos for Nine Inch Nails ("Closer"), Jay-Z ("99 Problems"), and Johnny Cash ("Hurt").
This is fantastic news, and should quell fears that The Wolf Man will turn into another Van Helsing or Mummy (which was fun, but hardly ever frightening). With a great actor on board, and a great director in the saddle, this could be the horror movie to beat late this year.
