If the pilot episode of FRINGE doesn't peak your fanboy interest well then nothing is going to.  Cutting edge, original and freaky FRINGE kind of pick up where X-FILES left off but without the alien abduction angle.  FRINGE instead approaches the unknown from a more scientific angle by including a character that is an institutionalized genius.

In a nutshell the storyline is as follows, An FBI agent, OLIVIA DUNHAM finds her world turned upside down when her partner and not so secret lover stumble upon some crazy happenings that have occurred aboard a trans Atlantic flight.  In a violent turn of events Agent Dunham's partner is seriously injured in an explosion but the damage from the explosion isn't the serious part, the fact that he is kind of melting is a more major and strange problem.

Dunham begins to turn to unorthodox measures to save her partner/lover and this leads her to an institutionalized professor, the "mad scientist" if you will that appears to be the only person that can lead her to the truth and ultimately the cure that will save her partner.

Yeah, the similarities to the X-FILES are unmistakable but just as they are so much a like, they are completely different.  A few things that they do share are high production values, top notch writing and great acting.

This box set is the complete first season which obviously begins with the 2 hour pilot episode which sets the plot line in an explosive and creative way by having the first 10 minutes being a plane full of passengers melting.  Pretty awesome and actually quite graphic for prime time network TV.

From there is is off to the races introducing character arcs and establishing plot lines that will be touched upon all season long.

All 20 episodes are present with select episodes having numerous and well done special features.  Assorted commentaries are also scattered along the way all of which completely immerse you in the FRINGE universe.

I watched FRINGE, hit and miss, when it aired on FOX last season but watching it like this, all at once, makes for a much more enjoyable and compelling experience.  I found myself unable to pull myself away watching episode after episode all the while getting more involved in the revolving story lines.  FRINGE really is a top notch show.

Produced by mega producer JJ ABRAHMS who is of course behind LOST and CLOVERFIELD not to mention the director of this years STAR TREK brings his unmistakable flare to the show and that's a good thing.  Unlike LOST though FRINGE appears to be a little easier to follow and they do a great job of bringing you up to speed at the start of each episode just in case you skip an hour or so.

I have to say, I find this 7 disc set to be a must own purchase and I highly recommend that you run right on out and pick this box set up but be prepared to waste a weekend in front of the TV because once you start watching you won't be able to stop.

FRINGE:  THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON is available now everywhere.

The second season just recently premiered on FOX.
