There
have been some truly beautiful books produced in the past two decades on the
making of certain films and film series.
The Stanley Kubrick Archive by Alison Castle and published by Tashen is
one of the largest and most ambitious. J.
W. Rinzler's The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original
Film and The Making of The Empire Strikes Back were long overdue forays into
the process behind one of the most successful films series of all time. Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History
of Friday The 13th by Peter M. Bracke had enough tidbits to satisfy the most
ardent follower of Jason Voorhees' body count.
JAWS - Memories from Martha's Vineyard by Jim Beller and Matt Taylor brings
to reader as close to the making of JAWS as possible in book form. Following this pattern, a new book is in the
works to tell the story of Michael Audrey Myers and his murderous legacy in
Haddonfield, Illinois.
Penned
by filmmaker and author Justin Beahm, Halloween: The Complete Authorized
History will be released in October 2013 to coincide with the 35th anniversary
of the release of John Carpenter's seminal masterpiece. The book will cover the
making of all eleven HALLOWEEN films, beginning with HALLOWEEN (1978) and
ending with the latest, HALLOWEEN 3D. Heavily
illustrated, the book will be a bonanza for HALLOWEEN fans as it will contain
rare documents, images, promotional materials and artifacts pulled from the
archives.
The
book's official website can be seen here.
