Synapse
Films is due to release Lamberto Bava's DEMONS (1985) and DEMONS 2: THE NIGHTMARE
RETURNS (1986) in new special edition DVD and Blu-ray versions. Both titles can be pre-ordered here.
Also,
Dario Argento's TENEBRE (1982)
and PHENOMENA
(1985) are scheduled to receive the high definition treatment.
I
sincerely hope that these new transfers will introduce audiences to the pulse-pounding
rock scores of Goblin that until now have sounded fairly flat on the previous
home video releases. Mr. Argento's films
would benefit tremendously from brand new digital stereo audio mixes with
discrete digital audio tracks. There has
been an overall lack of high fidelity and stereo and Goblin's music deserves to
be heard in all it's glory, as do Iron Maiden's "Flash of the Blade", Motorhead's "Locomotive", Bill Wyman's "Valley" and "Valley Bolero" (this
track plays during the sequence when Sophie rushes off to visit her boyfriend
outside the school just before she is killed and has never, to my knowledge,
been available on any soundtrack album for the film) to name a few.
Hopefully, SUSPIRIA is not that far off...
