We all know the story.  The end of the franchise was to come with the release of this film.  In the special features it is mentioned on numerous occasions that everyone though they were making the last JASON film.  Pretty funny when we sit here some 25 years later and JASON is still gracing the big screen.

When you look back at this film though you realize that it really is the perfect end for such an iconic character and it kind of sucks in a way that those with the money have led our hockey masked madman down the path that they have.  He could have died with dignity several decades ago but instead we have watched him get hack, slashed, resurrected, shot into space and turned into some kind of weird worm/slug thing.  What an odd strange path this franchise has taken.

But back in 84 Tom Savini, the man who gave birth to the monstrous JASON was hired to kill his creation and he did it in a most horrendous and entertaining way.

No real need to rehash the story here.  If at this point you haven't seen the film that I can't help but wonder why the hell you're here reading this review in the first place.

The reason to read this is to find out just how many and how cool the special features are and I am pleased to tell you that they are plentiful and they are good.

First up is the obligatory feature commentary track.  Director Joe Zito is a lot of fun to listen to and you can tell he loves this film and is proud of his work on it.  He relates story after story about the making of the film and just about everthing that comes out of his mouth is fascinating and entertaining.

The is also a documentary called JASON"S UNLUCKY DAY:  25 YEARS AFTER FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER which is worth purchasing the disc for in and of itself.  Lots of SAVINI talking about the FX and lots of the cast talking about their time spent at CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE.

Also featured is the alternate ending the final reveals what happened to Corey Feldmans mom.  If you remember she wanders outside and just kind of vanishes.  It is implied that JASON does her in but until now we never knew how.  I like this ending.  It was creepy and well done.  Make sure to check it out.

The last thing I would like to touch on is the SLASHED SCENES which comprise of a bunch of old footage that they found that was missing the sound.  Joe Zito provides commentary over this silent footage but there is a ton of really great stuff in this segment.

There are a couple of other features but they are pretty lame.  You can check them out when you buy the disc but they arn't worth our time here.

Over all this is a great disc.  The film looks and sounds the best it ever has and the specail features are complete, well done and very entertaining.

I'm going to have to say that this is pretty much a must own for any self respecting VORHEE'S fan.

The disc is available now.
