An interesting blend of cop story and horror tale Gregory Lamberson’s Personal Demons is a rollercoaster ride of a tale.  Opening as a gritty big city drama about a cop named Jake, a good cop with a coke habit and marital problems; we are drawn into Jake’s world and quickly wrapped up in his day to day existence.  One day he stops by a local bar to pick up some drugs and while taking a leak becomes wrapped up in an attempted robbery where he shoots and kills the robbers.

He ends up quitting the force because they want to perform a drug test as part of the Internal Affairs investigation and Jake knows that he is gong to test positive for Coke and bring shame upon himself and his family. A downhill spiral begins and Jake appears to be heading to personal ruin.  It is at this point that the story takes a strange and wonderful twist into the weird, macabre imagination of Greg Lamberson.

I really don’t want to give away too much of the story here as you really need to read this one for yourself and pay a visit to the wonderful landscape that Lamberson has so masterfully constructed.  Just to give you a quick rundown of what all is present in this warped little tale we have serial killers, reclusive psycho’s, demons, soulless zombies, mutant creatures, biblical prophecies and blood, lots and lots of blood.

It really is a tale that spans many of the genres favorite subject matters and it does it in such a way that it doesn’t seem silly or out of place.  Lamberson has found a way to weave all of these subject matters into a scary, cohesive tale that you just can not put down.

Gregory Lamberson has a background in film having been involved with a trio of low budget shockers and his cinematic background is quite evident in his rich prose that sets excellent scenes that are just riveting.  Personal Demons would actually make one hell of a film and it would not surprise me to see it optioned at some point in the future.

The book is available as a trade paperback and also a signed and numbered limited edition hardcover by clicking here.

I can not stress enough that this is one genre title you should pick up and soon.  Well written and original this is a must read novel for any fan of the genre.
