Apr 24, 2006,

The lastest film by genre fave Mila Jovavich’s latest film ULTRAVIOLET didn’t do much at the box office but I just got the DVD specs and it looks like Sony is going to give it the royal treatment so maybe it will fair a little better on home video.  Here are all the details on the release:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced today that the adrenaline-charged Sci-Fi thriller Ultraviolet will be available on DVD, Blu-ray Disc® and for PSP™ June 27th.  Written and directed by Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit and cult hit, Equilibrium), the film stars Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, The Fifth Element) as Ultraviolet, a courageous and determined heroine who leads the fight in a futuristic civil war and holds the fate of  a new super human race in her hands.  Ultraviolet was filmed entirely in the new high definition format to capture the film’s high-flying action stunt sequences with incredible clarity and also features performances by Cameron Bright (The Butterfly Effect), Nick Chinlund (The Legend of Zorro) and William Fichtner (Mr. & Mrs. Smith).  Ultraviolet will be available on DVD and for PSP™ for an SRP of $28.95 and will be presented in PG-13 theatrical and unrated extended cut versions.  The high-definition Blu-ray Disc® will be presented in the PG-13 theatrical version for an SRP of $38.95.  The PG-13 theatrical version also includes several bonus features such as UV Protection: The Making of Ultraviolet and cast commentary.  The unrated extended cut DVD will contain the same features as the PG-13 theatrical version as well as never-before-seen footage.

The unrated extended cut of Ultraviolet will also be released on the Universal Media Disc (UMD™) format that plays on the new PSP™ (Playstation Portable) handheld entertainment system.  The UMD™ Video of Ultraviolet is compatible with the Sony Playstation Portable  (PSP™), the first truly integrated portable entertainment system designed to provide consumers with a comprehensive experience and to support multiple lifestyle applications including games, music, movies, communication and wireless gaming.

SYNOPSIS

Set in the late 21st Century, Ultraviolet centers on a new subculture of genetically-modified humans that have emerged with a vampire-like disease (Hemophagia), giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence.  As this new breed is set apart from normal, “healthy” humans, the world is pushed to a global civil war aimed at the destruction of the “diseased” population.  In the middle is Ultraviolet, an infected woman who finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the government as he is believed to be a threat to humans.

DVD BONUS Features* Include:

PG-13 Theatrical Version:

UV Protection: The Making of Ultraviolet

Cast Commentary

Unrated Extended Cut:

All the features of the PG-13 Theatrical Version plus:

Never-Before-Seen Bonus Footage

Produced by John Baldecchi (The Mexican, Simon Birch), Ultraviolet has a run time of 87 minutes and is rated PG-13.  Both DVD versions of Ultraviolet will also be available in a special two-pack with Resident Evil SE.
