Matthew was real proud of himself the instant before his death. How he'd hacked the information and found out where one of Amazon.com's remote warehouse facilities were. How he'd rented the large van under false ID, found the unmarked center, and broke in undetected. Matthew pulled himself up so he could see into the boxes of the second shelf - and that's when the entire unit collapsed and caved inward. Matthew fell backwards, and curled onto his side in a fetal position just before the debris fell over his body. Not just boxes, but packed cases and crates and slats upon slats tumbled onto his body, along with the thick steel, warehouse shelving units that previously stood 30 feet tall. Beams rained down upon Matthews skull - and ironically, the last thing he saw was what he had come for. Unreleased DVDs piled around his head as the weight increased - titles like Throg and the yet-to-be-seen Three Extremes II. These were his last sights as his skull was pressed, the bone of it cracking into several pieces, splitting down the middle beneath the skin of his scalp. His brains pushed outward and filled in under his hair like a lump of chopmeat. The vision in his eyes went white as his nerves burned out and the life left his body - the orbs tightly pressed within broken sockets, gorging black red with blood.
12 Days of Terror (2004) 86 minutes
Rated PG-13 for shark attacks Starring Colin Egglesfield, Mark Dexter, Jenna Harrison Directed by Jack Sholder
All Movie Guide Plot Description: A vicious shark terrorizes the New Jersey shore in this tale of terror at the beach starring Colin Egglesfield and John Rhys-Davies and based on the actual events that inspired Peter Benchley's Jaws. The year was 1916 and the citizens of New Jersey dared not step in the water for fear of meeting a grim fate in the jaws of a great white shark. For 12 days, the bloodthirsty beast would stalk the normally serine shores of New Jersey awaiting the next victim to tempt fate by taking a swim, and as the most sustained series of shark attacks in recorded history shook an entire community, the power of the perfect predator proved that humankind isn't always at the top of the food chain. Day of the Animals (1977) 97 minutes
Not Rated Starring Christopher George, Leslie Nielsen, Linda Day George Directed by William Girdler
There were a lot of nature-striking-back films in the 70's and 80's - Alligator, The Swarm, Earthquake - everything from Squirm to Prophecy to Empire of the Ants. Amongst this onslaught of pretty cool horror films came Day of the Animals - which I personally caught on cable way back in the day, and later as an ABC movie of the week. Something goes wrong, and like Maximum Overdrive, where machinery turned on humans, so does the local zoo and everything roaming free in Day of the Animals. More specifically: "The depletion of the earth's ozone layer causes animals above the altitude of 5000 feet to run amok, which is very unfortunate for a group of hikers who get dropped off up there by helicopter just before the quarantine is announced." ~ Amazon.com. A younger Leslie Neilson (Naked Gun, Scary Movie 4) takes on a man-eating grizzly for instance. Non-gory, TV-level horror fun. Don't Go Near the Park (1981) 84 minutes
Rated R Starring Aldo Ray, Meeno Peluce, Linnea Quigley Directed by Lawrence D. Foldes
All Movie Guide Plot Description: Don't Go Near the Park begins in a cave 12,000 years ago, where an old crone with phony rubber hands curses her sinful children, Gar and Tre (Crackers Phinn, Barbara Monker). They will age ten years for every year of life and never die. To appear youthful, they must kill people by ripping their stomachs open and eating their guts. To end the curse, Gar must marry a woman and produce a virgin girl who will be sacrificed at age 16. The next segment follows Gar (now named Mark) as he hypnotizes his landlady (a young Linnea Quigley) into bearing him a child, Bondi. On her 16th birthday, Bondi is upset by her parents' fighting and runs away to Griffith Park, blowing up a van full of rapists along the way. In the park, supposedly cursed by the "demons of Los Feliz," Bondi is taken in by Patty, who is actually Tre in disguise. Patty lives in an abandoned ranch house with two other runaways. Cowboy (Chris Riley) is a handsome teen who shows Bondi his child-abuse scars and falls in love with her, while Nick is a sassy eight-year-old played by Voyagers' Meeno Peluce, first seen as he tries to fondle Bondi in her sleep. Aldo Ray plays a writer named Taft who tells Nick about the park's curse, leading the three kids to try an escape. They end up in a corpse-filled cave, where Mark tries to rape Bondi until Patty hits him on the head with a rock. The witchy siblings shoot lasers out of their eyes at each other, then Bondi turns into their mother and causes all the corpses to come alive, devouring them. Reverting to her normal form, Bondi helps Nick and Cowboy escape the cave, but rips Nick's stomach open on a playground slide in a predictable "shock ending." Director Lawrence D. Foldes and co-screenwriter Linwood Chase appear as two of the van rapists, and their fiery demise at least provides some measure of revenge for the audience. DVD Special Features include: Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono) Commentary by director Lawrence D. Foldes and actress Linnea Quigley Extended and deleted scenes "Grue!!" Evils of the Night (1985) 90 minutes
Rated R Starring Aldo Ray, Neville Brand, John Carradine Directed by Mardi Rustam
All Movie Guide Plot Description: This uproariously bad sci-fi/horror oddity plays like a modern version of a cheesy '50s alien-invasion flick, only not as clever. The filmmakers deserve some credit for throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the plot (and perhaps even the sink's in there somewhere), which involves the diabolical plans of three silver-suited aliens, played by -- ready for this? -- John Carradine, Julie Newmar (TV's Catwoman) and Tina Louise (Ginger from Gilligan's Island), who hire a couple of drunken wrench jockeys (Neville Brand and Aldo Ray) to help them abduct a bunch of lame-brained teenage campers for use in the production of a youth-restoring serum. This allows for endless riffing on the Friday the 13th scenario, as over-sexed teens are stalked by ski-masked Brand and Ray. "B"-movie fans should be forewarned that this film's once-in-a-lifetime acting ensemble does virtually nothing to enhance the negligible entertainment value. She is drugged in a bar and winds up in the care of kindly stud Mike (Anthony Eisley), who takes up the investigation with her.
