Horror films once again have reigned supreme at the weekend box office, with Silent Hill and Scary Movie 4 taking the first and second place spots in the weekend box office race. Silent Hill, based off the popular video game series of the same name earned an estimated $20.2 million in its first weekend of release, while the fourth entry to the Scary Movie franchise earned an additional $17 million, upping its total earnings to $67.7 million.
Silent Hill is based on the enduring survival horror video game series put out by Konami and concerns a mother searching for her lost daughter in the titular haunted town which has been the staging ground for witch burnings, demon possessions and all sorts of other wholesome activities.
Scary Movie 4 continues the (questionably) enduring franchise of horror spoofs by taking on such hits as Saw, The Grudge and War of the Worlds.
