Flesh-eating fish are getting the Dimension Films treatment as Joe Dante's 1978 movie PIRANHA gets a new look under the masterful eye of Alexandre Aja, who directed THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake.

The powers that be decided to not only bring the fish with a taste for blood back to life but put them in your face by making the upcoming R-rated horror flick into a 3-D movie.

"The film presents us with a unique opportunity to launch a new global franchise and take advantage of the incredible developments in 3-D technology," said Dimension topper Bob Weinstein.

PIRAHNA won't be the only horror remake to get the 3-D treatment, LIONSGATE'S MY BLOODY VALENTINE remake will have the up close and personal touch as well.

No casting information in available but a release date of July, 24, 2009 has been set.
