I know, I know. Not really horror but damn it, Close Encounters is one of those films that transcend genre. There are some generally scary and cool scenes in this film. It really is some of Spielberg's best work.
In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the release of the film in theaters Sony has put out the end all, do all copulation of the film with an extraordinary 3 disc collection that is actually quite breathtaking. I've got all the info below as well as some pretty awesome clips most of which you all have probably already seen but they certainly deserve another look.

SYNOPSIS:
Directed by two time Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, (Best Directing, 1998 Saving Private Ryan; 1993 Schindler’s List), Close Encounters of the Third Kind won two 1977 Academy Awards® for Best Cinematography and Sound Effects Editing. The film also garnered an astonishing seven additional nominations including Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound and Best Supporting Actress.
The all star cast includes Academy Award® winner Richard Dreyfuss (1977, Best Actor, The Goodbye Girl), Academy Award® nominee Teri Garr (1982, Best Supporting Actress, Tootsie), Melinda Dillon in an Academy Award® nominated performance, Academy Award® nominee Francois Truffaut (1974, Best Directing, Day for Night), Bob Balaban (The Mexican) and Cary Guffey.
In the night skies near his home in Muncie, Indiana, power repairman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) experiences something out of this world. His close encounter sets into action an amazing chain of events that leads to contact with benevolent aliens and their Mothership.
