Back in 2004, you must have heard at some point about the Beslan School massacre, where Russian terrorists took over a school full of young children - and ended up part of the near 500 dead men, women and children. It was absolutely brutal, and now a man named Matthew Hobbs has taken it upon himself to do a film recreating one of the most viscious mass murders in modern history. Here's the article snippet from ContactMusic as it appeared.
The producer of an upcoming movie charting the 2004 Beslan School massacre has hit out at criticisms it is "too soon" to dramatise the horror. Matthew Hobbs insists he's prepared for a backlash when the film is eventually released, but hopes the sensitivity with which the Russian siege is handled will reassure victims and relatives. And Hobbs believes the finished work will be an apt memorial to the 344 civilians, 186 of the schoolchildren, who lost their lives in the three-day hostage drama. He says, "We were at first hesitant to say we are planning on making this but when the press and the viewing public see the film, they will appreciate the sensitivity with which we have created the story. "There's an element of lest-we-forget."
With so many atrocities occuring in the world lately, from 9-11 to something like the Beslan School Massacre - it is becoming inevitable that horror films cross these lines and portray the darker side of history nobody wants to speak about. We'll keep you updated on this and other history films in the making as we embark on this latest chapter in horror filmmaking. Keep it here, as always.
