Looks like somebody screwed up somewhere and Fango appears to be placing the blame squarely on the theatre owners. Just like they did for Land of the Dead Fango was all set up for a one night only, cross country showing of an unrated version of The Hills Have Eyes. They even shot some exclusive interview footage with Wes Craven to show during the special screening. Well, it turns out that the theatre owners had other plans. Here's the official word from the Fango site:
After we mastered an unrated version of the film for big-screen play, produced a trailer and taped an interview with Wes Craven, the theaters informed Fox and Fango that they were not comfortable exhibiting the uncut version of the film and would prefer to screen the original R-rated edition. Both Fox and Fango felt fans deserved to see a screening of the unrated version vs. another run of the theatrical cut.
What do they think they do, own the theatre or something? Bastards.
Fango has gone ahead and loaded the Craven interview footage to their website and you can view the three clips by clicking here.
The unrated DVD of The Hills Haves Eyes comes out on June 20th. You can check out my review of the disc by clicking here.
