I hate reporting this.  Director Bob Clark and his son, Ariel, were killed yesterday by a drunk driver.  Early in the morning, a twenty-four year-old operating his car without a license sidelined Clark's car.  It's awful that Clark, an industry legend, died of something so preventable, and that his son had to go with him.

Third from right, with the Christmas Story cast.

Bob Clark is responsible for some of the funniest movies in history, most notably Porky's and holiday perennial A Christmas Story. with its infamous leg-lamp, evil department store Santa, and the Red Ryder BB Gun.

For us horror nuts, he was the director of the classic Black Christmas, the cinematic father of the modern slasher film.  His other genre work includes cult favorites Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things and Dead of Night.  In recent years, he focused more on television and children's movies.  Bob Clark wasn't a large figure in the movies - he mostly stayed out of the spotlight and focused on his work.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
