Hot on the heels of Fangoria TV making its broadband internet debut comes news this morning that The Horror Channel has inked a deal with AKIMBO to begin airing on it’s new internet to VOD service come Halloween.  Haven’t heard of AKIMBO?  Don’t feel bad I hadn’t either but some quick searching on the net turned up the info pretty quick and you know what?  It’s pretty feakin cool.  You can click here to head on over to the AKIMBO website for all the info and read on below for the press release from THC about the partnership:

The Horror Channel, the premier broadband venue for the best horror, terror and suspense programming, has entered into an agreement with Akimbo™ Systems, creator of the first and largest Internet-to-TV video-on-demand service for television.  The Horror Channel’s wide array of programming, including each of its original online series, will be available to Akimbo Service subscribers just as this year’s Halloween season is reaching its peak.

Akimbo is the first fully functional marriage of TV and the Internet, combining easy access to new and fresh shows with the comfort of watching them anywhere in the home.  The Akimbo Service features more than 13,000 on-demand videos from 200 content providers in seven languages.  Consumers can choose from approximately 100 categories of mainstream and specialty video that fits every interest.

“This deal with Akimbo marks The Horror Channel’s first step toward offering our fans programming via television,” said Nicholas Psaltos, Founder and CEO, The Horror Channel.  “Akimbo subscribers can browse the user-friendly, onscreen Akimbo Guide and click on The Horror Channel to download our thrilling movies, specials and series for viewing in the comfort of their living rooms.”

“The Akimbo Service is an ideal way for The Horror Channel to break into the world of television and helps them reach horror and suspense fans wherever they may be,” said Akimbo CEO Josh Goldman.  “Akimbo subscribers will be delighted to access The Horror Channel’s unique selection of classic movies like Night of the Living Dead and Dementia 13, contemporary horror flicks like The Dead Next Door and Howling III: The Marsupials and original series such as Shadow Falls and Heartland Horrors.”

Akimbo will be available this month on the new RCA Akimbo Player, an Internet VOD set-top box retailing for $199.99.   Akimbo is also accessible in the Online Spotlight area of Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005 PCs, and is coming soon to the AT&T Homezone home entertainment service.  A monthly subscription to Akimbo costs $9.99 per month.  For more information, please visit www.akimbo.com.

It’s different but exciting.  Good luck to THC as they venture down this uncharted highway.
