I know at first it
seems that major excitement is in order about this announcement but Im
just getting a weird vibe about this whole thing. Here is the
info and you decide for yourself.
Dread Central is reporting that George
Romeros new zombie film, Diary of the Dead is beginning production
within the next 48 hours.
My question is, Whats the
hurry? Man, that is damn fast to get any film off the ground let
alone a Romero film. Romero has notoriously taken YEARS between
projects and the fact that this one almost seems to be being shot out
of a cannon is causing me great concern.
Im not trying to be a nay sayer
here, just asking what seems like an obvious question. You
all know my thoughts on Land of the Dead (for those of you new here, I
thought it blew) and he had over a decade to write that one. I
was hoping that if GAR got to make another zombie film he would take it
back to its roots and make another Pittsburgh based opus that would
neatly wrap up his life long work but instead it appears that all
involved are running head long into another big money poopfest.
Only time will tell and I hope that
my fears prove to be unfounded. This just seems like an odd
announcement coming so quickly on the heels of last weeks reports of
cancelled con appearances and rumored hospital stays. I just hope
that the film is being made for the right reasons, not for the payday
for the studio and those involved but instead for the payoff to us fans
who have devoted our money, time and faith in a film maker that has
seemed to have been so in touch with his audience.
