I love the first weekend of June. It signals the arrival of summer. The grills are fired up. The beach traffic is getting thicker. And the kids are practically clawing their way out of school. But I won’t notice any of it. No,  I’ll be spending my weekend indoors at the Burbank Hilton, where Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors will be taking place.

This year marks a special occasion for the annual so cal event. Tony Timpone and company have stretched the festivities into three days. Three whole days. You know what that means? There must be a lot of special guests this time around. We’ve got everybody from Bob Clark(making his first appearance) to Bruce Cambell( I’ve lost count of how many appearances) and everybody in between. Lance Henriksen. Guillermo del Toro. Stuart Gordon. Greg Nicetero. Howard Berger. Kane Hodder. Bill Mosely. Even Roddy Piper.

So what are you waiting for? Book your rooms now. Book a room even if you live ten minutes away. You see, everybody attending the convention, movie makers and fans alike, gather in the hotel bar at sundown. That’s one of the wonderful fangorian traditions. You get to mingle with some of your favorite genre stars. And you’ll find that they’re the nicest people in show business. Another big bonus is that the guest list doesn’t paint the full picture because most filmmakers are fans themselves, so a good number of them show up just to hang out! And they do it every year. So you shy folks get yet another chance to introduce yourselves.

Attending the Weekend of Horrors is like getting together with family and friends. You catch up. You find out what everybody’s been up to. So what if there’s no burgers being flipped or any sun to soak up? Vampires hate the sun anyway, don’t they? I can hear you screeching now, “There’s gonna be vampires there?” And I’m here to answer. Yes. There is. Lots of them(you all know who you are). But not to worry. Like the dreamers who turn our worst fears into movie magic, they’re very approachable. In fact, they’re probably the sweetest people you're likely to meet in your entire afterlife.
