You had to put it either of two ways when you looked at it. Either Rudy was simply a "lost soul" to begin with, or she was, literally, late for her own funeral. It was at 4:45pm that she'd left work 15 minutes early to rush to Best Buy. A passionate horror fan her whole conscious life, she'd seen Bloodrayne in theaters eight times. It was her favorite - and brimming over inside of her was this overwhelming urge to pick up the disc and share it with her two younger sisters. She was driving with a gleam of madness in her eye - daydreaming of the fun they'd have that night. Unfortunately, it was at 4:59pm that she was broadsided by an eighteen-wheeler at the Best Buy intersection. To Ruby, it had never happened. To her, she continued on in to the store, found the proper isle... but the disc was nowhere to be found. And every time she asked for help, nobody would assist. Ruby spent quite a bit of time frantically roaming the isles - searching for her DVD. That bit of time was actually five days. Ruby was left behind, a spirit caught up in the moment of her last moments on Earth - and this did come to her in time. Only not quickly enough. By the time Ruby realized what had happened , she sped to the graveyard where her service was held... just six hours earlier. Ruby's body was in the ground, and the priest was home in his quarters. She had missed her "departure" and was trapped in limbo. A lost soul, late for her own funeral.
Bloodrayne (Unrated Director's Cut/DVD ROM Game) (2006)

Starring Kristanna Loken, Michelle Rodriguez, Matthew Davis
Directed by Uwe Boll
Video Universe Plot Description: This action-horror film is set in ancient Romania and stars Kristianna Loken (Terminator 3) as Rayne, a half-human/half-vampire sworn to kill her evil tyrant vampire father (Ben Kingsley). Michael Madsen, Michelle Rodriguez, and Matthew Davis play a trio of vampire hunters who ally themselves with Rayne. Based on a video game, this film earns its R-rating by offering a lot more blood, gore, and nudity--and less CGI effects--than most of its modern vamp contemporaries. With all its swords, chained breasts, gushing arteries, and severed heads, Bloodrayne seems more like a welcome throwback to those great early 1980s drive-in sword and sorcery flicks. In between the slashing and gouging there are torch-lit castles, nefarious booby traps, blurry flashbacks, and aerial camera shots that swoop down through the gorgeous Carpathian landscapes. Loken, with her fangs and low-rider leather chaps, looks pretty gorgeous herself, and there's a surprising number of name actors in bit parts, including Meat Loaf (as a vamp surrounded by nubile naked concubines), Geraldine Chaplin (as a fortune teller), and--clearly having the most fun--Billy Zane as a bored vampire king plotting to take over the kingdom. It's directed by Uwe Boll, the man who gave us the video game adaptations of House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark. Cult cinema fans should take this one to--and through--the heart, especially for the chance to see Madsen's period costume and long hair.
