Dario Argento's Tenebre, or Tenebrae depending upon how you want to spell it, is widely regarded to be one of the director's best films. Shot between Inferno, his 1980 follow-up to Suspiria, and his personal favorite film of his, 1985's Phenomena, Tenebrae is his 1982 return to the giallo subgenre and will be released on Region B Blu-ray in the UK on January 19, 2015. If you have a region-free player here in the States, this is what you can expect to see when the disc streets in two weeks. From the press release:

TENEBRE

Synopsis: Terror Beyond Belief!

A notorious horror classic returns in all its depraved glory. This infamous video nasty updated the classic Giallo blueprint for the gorified 80s, courting controversy and drenching the viewer in crimson arterial spray.

A razor-wielding psycho is stalking the horror writer Peter Neal, in Rome to promote his latest work, Tenebre. But the author isn't the obsessive killer's only target, the beautiful women who surround him are doomed as one by one, they fall victim to the murderer's slashing blade...

Cynophiles will be delighted with Raiders of the Lost Bark, an adorable send-up of Steven Spielberg's beloved first entry in the Indiana Jones series.  While the short runs just shy of five minutes, it's an enjoyable romp that can be added to the list of parodies of our favorite movies.

Have a look for yourself:

Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film version of Stephen King's The Shining will be screened on Saturday, November 1 at Jersey City's famed Loew's Jersey Theatre.  The screening will be followed by a masquerade party in the huge theatre lobby.  From the press release:

On November 1 at 7 PM, come to watch the legendarily creepy "The Shining" starring Jack Nicholson on The Loew's Jersey's  BIG 50-FOOT-WIDE screen…AND THEN after the movie, starting at 9:30 PM, step out to the Grand Lobby and into an elegantly decadent Masquerade After-Party!  It'll have a 1920s theme to celebrate the Loew's 85th Anniversary, and that will also make you feel like you're back in one certain scene in "The Shining" -- a little eerie, maybe, but also a lot of fun!  There'll be a great mix of music & dancing all night, light refreshments, a cash bar (wine & beer), and a surprise or two.  And because a Masquerade has become a new tradition at the Loew's, there will be a Costume Contest for fun prizes with categories that include "Best Jack," "Best Movie Star" and "Best Over-All."  But if you don't have a mask, don't worry--while preferred, they're not required. You can come as you are to the party!  Don't miss this unique Halloween happening!  Proceeds will benefit Friends of the Loew's.

It's Alive, Larry Cohen's 1974 cult thriller starring John P. Ryan, Sharron Farrell, James Dixon and Guy Stockwell, is celebrating it's 40th anniversary with a screening at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles.  The film will be screening on Thursday, October 16th, 2014 at 10:00 pm.  Director Cohen and actress Farrell are scheduled to appear in person to discuss the film.  From the press release:

Our modern world is full of marvels - but also polluted air, foods sprayed with deadly chemicals, misused drugs and hidden radioactive substances. Ever wonder how these poisons might affect a developing child in the womb? This cult thriller offers a shocking possibility - and in so doing has become a creepy cult classic! It's Alive is the first film of the now-legendary terror trilogy from writer/director Larry Cohen (Q: The Winged Serpent, God Told Me To) about murderous mutants - and its birth was chillingly midwived by the crucial contributions of two Academy Award winners: makeup master Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London), who created the makeup and "played" the infant monster, and composer Bernard Herrmann (Psycho).

The Nuart Theatre is located at 11272 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90067.  It can be reached at (310) 473 - 8530
