Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (2012) Review:

Tiktik: The Answang Chronicles is a monster film from the Philippines which, in reality, would be better defined as an action-comedy rather than a proper horror flick. The film is praised for being the first Filipino film to be shot entirely on green screen, explaining for the over-aesthetic look of the film, such as you would find in 300 or Sin City.

A quick explanation of the title is necessary here, an Answang is a creature that is half-human- the half-monster, which looks like a vampire but that can shape-shifts into all sorts of animals, but will mostly turn into a bloodthirsty dog. Answering favorite delicacies are fetuses, which lead them to produce this very characteristic noise when hunting for it: tiktik…tiktik…tiktik.

This film has everything of a bad but fun B-movie. It has an arrogant hero, a totally lame story…that by no-mean makes sense, some terribly designed creatures, etc. The fights towards the end look very much alike a Playstation video-game. Luckily, here and there, the film is stuffed with fun comedy elements such as the sting-ray tale weapon, the over-exaggerated acting of the main character…or the ridiculous battle moves! If you are one that enjoys films that “are so bad that they are good”, then you may enjoy it…others will have a really hard time keeping their eyes open. The trailer is cool tho!
