The Fourth Kind (2009) Review:

The Fourth Kind is not your usual horror movie. Mentioning too much about its plot would kind of waste the experience of those who haven’t seen it, so I’ll try to concentrate on the way it was made instead. Filmed as a documentary, the film starts as if it was relating to real events, which does not seem to be the case from what can be found on the internet.

In numerous moments during the film, a split screen presents on one side the fictional story and characters (the reconstitution) and the other side the supposedly real footage of the same scene. This very unsettling for it really makes you believe that it is a true story. The problem comes when the viewer finally realizes (toward the end of the film) that everything was actually invented fact. Realizing that I had fooled the all-time, I felt really disappointed at that point.

I think this film concept is innovative and ambitious but should have been kept its fictional aspect. Other than that, the story is very captivating if you do not know what it is about beforehand. Mila Jovovich and her reality counterpart are both bringing something great to the movie, which even allows itself the luxury of being truly scary more than once.

Overall, I found The Fourth Kind to be a real pleasant surprise and a film that we do not talk about enough.
