The Collection (2012) Review:
The Collection is a pretty good sequel to Horror movie The Collector, but one that does not surprise for it brings a rather similar action, except on a bigger scale.
Don’t expect to discover crazy new things about the maniac killer either, the scenario is here very simple, and filled with incoherence. In a similar way, the various traps disappoint here. In the first film, they were really simple and efficient traps, definitely the highlight of the film. Here they are much more elaborated….but a little too much. In that sense, the film will remind you of the late “Saw” films (which make sense since the director, Marcus Dunstan, is also the writer of Saw IV, V and VI).
Apart from that, the film is well realized and packed with action. The movie is short and, as a result, you do not have time to get bored. The villain is still quite impressive, which a great job made on his eyes that makes him look truly evil. The presence of Arkin from the first film, greatly played by the “Sean Penn-like” Josh Stewart is interesting too.
This film didn’t perform well in the aspect of the commercial format and lost its way at the box office.
