As many of you know, it has been confirmed that George A. Romero is slated to
write and direct the new Resident Evil film. For all zombie lovers and horror fans as a
whole, this is a godsend. George has been spending the last couple of years dedicating his
time to writing scripts. He hasn't been behind the camera since helming the Dark Half back
in 1993. It has also been over thriteen years since he brought semi-closure to his
"living dead trilogy".
This page will be dedicated to keep you updated on the progress of the film and hopeful seeing it to final completion. But be forewarn, that this is Hollywood and thing can change at anytime. George himself has stated that he has written over fifty movies that have "never" been made. Let's hope that this isn't fifty-one.
Most of the information included on this page will be taken from several sources. These include, but are not limited to magazine articles, the internet, newsgroups, and sources close to Romero himself. We plan to do our best at providing the most up-to-date information on the Resident Evil production.
George Romero will write and direct.
The following was taken from a transcript of a George Romero chat I attended on Talkcity.com (10/24/98). When asked about the script's relationship to the game, Romero replied:
"My script, tries very much to stick to the game. I did change some of the relationships. Chris, is not a STARS. trooper, he's a local guy. Ghil, is a trooper, living in Raccoon City undercover. They fall in love. Chris doesn't realize that she is working for STARS. Romance is not big in this movie. ROLF!
That's how they meet, and Chris winds up following the team into the mansion. That's basically the only big difference, that Chris isn't a STARS. guy.
We're trying to keep all the dark qualities of the game.
We will probably have to shoot two versions, because in the US and in many other countries, the violence won't be tolerated. However, in Japan and Germany and many territories where the restrictions are not as stringent the complete version will be released. I'm sure there will be directors cut versions released everywhere on video."
The budget is reported in excess of $65 million.
Probably will be a Fall 1999 or 2000 release.
Presently Tom Savini's name is not attached to this project.
Jason Patrick, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Bruce Campbell, and Samantha Mathis have all been named as "possible" cast members for the film. (non-confirmed)
Horror Online reports that Gellar is up for the role of Rebecca Chambers, a SWAT team member who finds herself in a mansion full of the living dead.
More to come later.
