A detective investigates a case of sexual abuse that involve a secret demonic cult.

Most people will be watching this movie because it features Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, and most of these people will end up happily surprised.

By the director of Thesis and The Others, Regression is a dark thriller that explore the existence of a satanic cult that secretly abuses children and kill babies. Like every conspiracy movies, this one features a good deals of surprises as you discover that some of the main characters are actually involved in the cult. The movie exploit cleverly the themes of paranoia, with an excellent Ethan Hawke as the lone detective that nobody believes.

The atmosphere is dark, as are the characters. The scenes featuring the cult are truly nightmarish. But best of all is the story which keeps misleading you. As soon as you make up your mind about what is happening, the plot will contradict you in the most intelligent ways. The conclusion is excellent too.

My only regret is that the movie doesn’t get deeper into the cult aspect, but that is simply because it is not really a horror movie in the first place, but a horror-themed thriller. A great watch.
