REC (2007) Synopsis:

Two reporters follow a team of firemen into a city building that seems to be the prey of a zombie-like virus.

REC (2007) Review:

REC is, in my opinion, one of the very best found footage to be found (along with The Blair Witch Project and Troll Hunter is you ask me).

The zombie genre goes here very well along with the found footage genre. It transforms what could have been a slow and repetitive film into something of great intensity. The use of the camera is clever with lots of oppressive shots such as the multiples ones in the stairway. The film ambiance is very heavy and great action scenes come to bring even more intensity. The claustrophobic aspect of being locked into the building further adds to the tension. Some of the scenes towards the end are terrifying.

The plot is relatively simple but because the film is relatively short (80min), it works out well. The design of these zombie-like creatures is cool, the children being the scariest ones.

This film became upon its release an instant classic of both the zombie and the found footage genre. It is one of the best Spanish horror films and the masterpiece of genius horror director Jaume Balagueró (Sleep Tight, Rec 2, Fragile).
