Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond" to have midnight
premieres June 12 in seven cities.

Los Angeles, April 3, 1998- Rolling Thunder, in association with Grindhouse Productions and Cowboy Booking International announced today the re-release of Lucio Fulci's cult classic thriller, "The Beyond". On June 12, the film will open limited engagements in New York and Los Angeles and midnight runs in five other cities, prior to a national summer rollout of midnight showings.

"The Beyond shows director Lucio Fulci at the height of his directorial power," says Jerry Martinez, Vice president of Rolling Thunder. "Like a waking nightmare, the film haunts the viewer with its horrific and shocking imagery. As Leone did for the spaghetti western, and Fellini did for the art film, Fulci redefines and advances the horror genre to a higher level."

"In the tradition of "Eraserhead" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", Rolling Thunder and Cowboy want to get Midnight Movies back into commercial movie theaters," says Cowboy Booking International President Noah Cowan. "We think that "The Beyond" is the perfect film to meet this challenge."

Acknowledged as one of the "unholy trinity" of Italian horror masters, along with Mario Bava and Dario Argento, master "splatter gore" director Lucio Fulci made more than 50 films over five decades, including such genre-defining works as "The Psychic," "Zombie," and "House by the Cemetery," and his masterpiece, "The Beyond" (1981).

"The seven dreaded gateways to hell are concealed in seven cursed places... And from the day the gates of hell are opened, the dead will walk the earth."
-The Beyond

Set in an old Victorian hotel in New Orleans built on top of one of those dreaded gateways to hell, "The Beyond" features a dizzying array of stunning images, horribly gory deaths and tantalizingly evil secrets. Zombies come back to life, eyeballs spring out of their sockets, tarantulas attack, and most chillingly and famously, primordial streams of acid flow forth in most unpleasant ways. All of this transpires in Cinemascope and gloriously lurid color, thanks to brand new prints of the rare,
original English-language version.

Cowboy Booking International is a New York-based specialized film distributor and booking agency releasing foreign films, documentaries, and American independent features. Cowboy partners Noah Cowan and John Vanco will also open Tim Kirkman's "Dear Jesse" this summer.

Grindhouse, the new leader in quality exploitation films, is a Hollywood-based company dedicated to the restoration and preservation of motion pictures historically held in very low regard, with a current focus on the extreme Italian horror movies of the '70s and '80s. Comprised of Bob Murawski and Sage Stallone, Grindhouse is committed not only to video distribution but also to theatrical release of the titles it acquires.

From Hong Kong new wave to the best of '70s exploitation film, Rolling Thunder was created to provide an interesting and insightful alternative to the fare inhabiting the local multiplex. In the words of Rolling Thunder head Quentin Tarentino, "It's a film buff's dream to give the theatrical experience to films that might never be seen in this country. It will function like a specialty label at a record company." "Chungking Express," "Switchblade Sisters," "and "Sonatine" are among the films that they have
