Kill List (2011) Review:

This first full-length feature movie by director Ben Wheatley (who later did A Field in England) is an often under-looked thriller/crime masterpiece. The does not seem to be so much horror-oriented at first, and only in the very end, when things suddenly make sense, does the audience realize how evil this film is.

Kill List is by no mean “fun” to watch: it is cruel, mad and has one of the heaviest atmospheres you will ever experience. The tone is one of constant dread, a constant feeling that something terrible is about to happen. The apocalyptic music does much to help in this way.

The story is complex and cleverly told. You get to learn things gradually until the mystery eventually becomes eventually unbearable… in a good way. It is virtually impossible to stop watching at this point. The end leaves a lot of questions unanswered, which is of course very frustrating but also allow you to think about the movie for a long time afterward.
