Hatchet (2006) Review:

Whereas the trend in modern years is more to exorcism or found footage films, Adam Green gratifies us with a good, old-school slasher. Instead of old-school, it is best to say new-school because Hatchet does not have much to do with the tense atmosphere of 80’s slashers such as “Friday the 13th” or “Halloween”. Instead, it is more a comedy-horror in the vein of “Tucker and Dale vs Evil” or “Lesbian Vampires Killer”.

As in most slashers, you’ll find the usual set of characters: the stupid bimbos, the funny black, the mysterious girl, etc. Here these character traits are pushed to the extreme, which gives a very ridiculous, yet extremely funny, aspect to the film. But the highlight of Hatchet is definitely the gore. Victor is a very cool villain, very ugly and very brutal, his kills are really violent and the multiple close-ups make it even gorier. If you are not really into “fun entertaining gory film”, it might not be for you….but which horror fan isn’t?
