Guinea Pig 6: Mermaid in a Manhole (1988) Review:
In this six episode of the Guinea Pig splatter series, famous for depicting atrocious torture and very graphic scenes, Hideshi Hino (who made The Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood) decided to go back to basics and bring back the pure violence and strange experiment aspect that made the success of the first two movies.
Because of this, the movie makes absolutely no sense at all – and just depicts the horrible change occurring to a mermaid in a bathtub. Exploding pustules, the flow of pus, worms, guts, the movie is like a compilation of the grossest things one could think of.
Whether this a good or a bad thing is then up to you. As compared to the other Guinea Pig episodes, the make-up work and special effects are really good here, and the film really makes you feel sick. So if you are looking for gore, I recommend watching Guinea Pig 1, 2 and 6 only. If you are looking for fun…you can add number 4 to the list.
