RE: your web site

My name is Rose Greenlay and I am writing this in regards to your "web" page. I am an 83 year old grandmother and was appalled one day to come home and find my 14 yr old grandson "surfing" the net and "browsing" on your little horror page you have. I am just saying that you should be ashamed of yourself young man, and what would your mother think? I gave my grandson a good talking to, listening to his comments such as "but grandma, its "cool"!".

"Cool"...I wasn't aware that people still used such a word. After a long argument, my grandson then muttered "Bloody hell" under his breath! Well I never! No doubt this type of filthy language came from your disgusting site, and I would just like to say one more time, you should be ashamed of yourself young man!

RE: Kudos on a wonderful website!

T4: Hello! I just wanted to pop in and let you know that the quality and quantity of your work is far from unappreciated! I have worked in the special-effects industry myself (although only in a minor capacity), and I became hooked on horror films in my early teens. Now I work in the computer industry, and can't help but admire the quality of the work I see here. Unfortunately, living in western Canada (prairies) often means that I can't get to see the movies I love most (Scariest: Night of LD; close tie with Evil Dead 1 and 2), so it's a pleasure to "visit my old friends" ... in their crypts, if you will!

I agree with you on the wonderful shock/pleasure of self-spooking. I remember the first time I saw Night of the LD ... at night, during a thunderstorm, alone, and with the back door not only unlocked but ajar. I don't know how I managed to avoid a heart-attack, but in the middle of creeping to the door to lock it I burst out laughing! It was a wonderful feeling, a way of feeling alive by getting close and personal with death. Sure, I knew it was "just a movie" ... but the fear was real, and it was an addictive rush. To this day, I'll only watch the good ones in the dark, and preferably alone ... or at least with someone who's as willing to be scared as I am.

Thankyou also for introducing me to some new old favorites. I was not familiar with Pumpkinhead before your site. May I suggest a page for fans to point out not-too-well-known horror films? It would be a pleasure to share classics with other fans!

Again, congratulations on an excellent job. Keep up the good work; I'll definitely be watching!

RE: definately

I am unfortunate (from a viewing pespective) to live in England, where we have a delightful sack of gob-shites called the BBFC. They take delight in removing class chunks of gore from most if not all of the great films on your site(when they're not BANNING them altogether). Bastards. At 16yrs of age in this country we can kill in the army, smoke, and fuck a guy
in the ass but we are forbidden from seeing a zombie eat his friends and relatives or some tarts' head spinning around a few times.Whilst taking a course in media-studies (hoho) the lecturer profiled a couple of movies (Zombie Flesh Eaters, Dawn of the Dead) and, well, to cut a very long story short; he was humiliated in public (Daily Mail newspaper and local rag), nearly lost his job etctc...well fuck me with a silver bullet. Our fucking state wants to wipe our asses from birth till the bit at the end...Ow well i just have to break their trivial little laws and import these classics from the USA or something. Bollocks to the lot of them
Keep up the Excellent Site...coz I like it and that a great compliment

Glen

T3: THIS IS ONE AMAZING WEBSITE!!!

T4: Hey John, I just want you to know that this is probably the EPITOME of a horror website.  It is throuoghly entertaining, humorous, and very informative.  It is well organized with plenty of information about some famous and many infamous horror films ranging from the classic to the obscure.  The biographies on many of the personalities who influence the horror genre is also well written and I could tell that you have dedicated a lot of time and effort into this website.  Again, keep up the great work, and it's time to give recognition to some of the most underappreciated horror films and faces in the world.

As you could already tell, I'm a big horror movie fan.  I collect horror films, as well as Hong Kong action films, but I enjoy this particular horror genre the most.  I am also an Asian American, and sadly, I see a dearth of Asians contributing to the horror genre so I am glad to see the fact that you have made a page on one of my favorite film makers, Tsui Hark.  One of my biggest hopes is to see more Asian Americans participating in the horror film industry because it is very fine and enjoyable.  Again, keep up the great work and I know that you are the man!  See ya!

RE: what the hell happened?

Paula Cole sings"where have all the cowboys gone?" I ask "where have all the good horror movies gone?" Perhaps I've just grown up and become too insensitive to be scared; but thank God for nostalgia. Atleast on your site I can always come and lookback on the way horror movies were meant to be made.thanks for the memories!

RE: Horror is my passion

Caretaker...you have fulfilled my need for horror. I have loved horror movies since the age of 5. My husband and I have a collection of over 100 horror flicks! We love your page because it has many titles that we are anxiously waiting to rent! We live in a small town and horror isn't that easy to find here...we travel 30-60 miles out of the way to browse the horror section in different areas. Horror helps us deal with reality...it's kind of theraputic. Thanks again for a great site!

RE: Horror Cinema

I would first of all like to comment that I am very impressed with the work you have done with your site. Too many sites out there don't get updated and were a brief insperation on the creators part only to become neglected. As long as there are dedicated fans out there such as yourself, there will always be a place on the Web for us to unite and share our reflections. Thank you! The horror film genre will last forever. It has always been a part of the cinema since its creation and will continue to be a part. Horror films reflect the times and feelings of the society inwhich they were made, and as long as there  fear and despair exist(I guess that isnt a good thing...) people will continue to be fascinated with reproducing these feelings within the safe confines of the theatures. But horror is not always just fear is it? Horror contains comedy (in some cases intentional), there is drama, there is romance, there is fantasy, there is beauty, and there is Art. People don't realize that every film out there has horror and death within them, it causes the story to move and to give the characters something to do beside pick their noses. So why is it that horror is generally frowned upon? Who cares! Anyway, how often do the things you love also are appreciated by say, your family or teachers? People are fussy and ignorant, and to think that we love horror because we thrive on suffering is sad and misguided (they should really read Carol Clover's fascinating work Men, Women, and Chainsaws or the collection of discussions within the book The Dread of Difference. Anyway, its seems that once you fall for these films, your addicted for life so, since the current Romantic Comedy/drama producing film industry has abandoned some of the most dedicated film fans in existince, we can only share our knowledge of film to keep ourselves satisfied.
Even though the current output of horror is minimal and not very scary (can you imagine the script you could get for an in joke Scream sequel if true fans wrote it like us!) but the amount of horror films out there is incredible. There is practically no end to the amount of horror out there for us to revel in. Horror from around the world baby. There always being new discoveries made and other countries works examined. I've loved horror since my mother accidentely, she thought there were fuzzy cute aliens-Ha,  took me to see Alien in 1979 (I was three). We must keep the faith and speak the word, and remember, horror will be back to raise its ugly mutated head and chomp upon again an unbelieving world. Peace!

Alan
