ASIAN HORROR
David Choi
RE: Asian Horror I have visited your website numerous times, and I must say that you have done a fantastic job! The section that I am most delighted at so far is your in depth coverage of Asia's contributions to the horror genre. Unlike American or European Horror flicks, Asians try to be a lot more unorthodox when incorporating horror themes into movies. Asians tend to add more humor, supernatural events, and even shades of actual Oriental religions to enhance the credibility of the horror cinema in Asian. (Examples include beliefs in Daoism, etc.) I'm not using those statements to be supercilious, but I am only comparing the differences between Euro, American, and Asian horror film s. Anyway, as a horror fan, I thoroughly revel in your well crafted website. It's insightful, profound, and covers a wide range of topics pertaining to horror. I also appreciate the fact that you have paid tributes to such people as Tsui Hark, Sammo Hung, and Leslie Cheung, who have helped increase the popularity of the horror genre to audiences all over Asia. A word of advice to you: Integrate contributions to the horror genre from the Japanese, especially their Manga comic books and anime. They have influences horror in Asia just as frequently as the Chinese. Thanx. Peace Out =) David Choi |
