ED2 Laserdisc CoverOne of the most anticipated laserdisc releases of last year became one of this year's most prized laserdisc. Elite Entertainment, one of the champions of horror laserdiscs", was finally able to secure the rights to this   horror classic and although it was delayed several time it was well worth the wait. If you haven't ordered it yet, stop reading this page and get it ordered before all the "blood red" discs disappear.

With this release we finally get to see "Evil Dead 2" in its proper aspect 1.85: 1. For us unfortunate fools who never got to see "Evil Dead 2" on the big screen, this disc is a dream come true. The transfer was supervised by Sam Raimi and is truly exquisite. I caught myself  several times saying...."was that on the video". I saw new things (actually crispier things) that made watching "Evil Dead 2" a whole experience for me.

The sound although in mono was crisp and clean with none of the popping that plagues the old video release. Sure it would have been great to have "Evil Dead 2" in stereo and even better in AC-3, but I'm not complaining, because it sounds great.

The best part about this new disc is the audio commentary. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Greg Nicotero (SPX artist) and Scott Spiegel (co-writer). The commentary was fantastic. It was like listening to MSK3000 as they watched "Evil Dead 2". Very funny and very informative at the same time. Some of the best commentary I have ever heard on a disc.

The disc also includes the original theatrical trailer, as well as, 30 minutes of behind-the-scene footage. I really wouldn't say that it contains deleted scene (although it does should extras from scenes that were cut down), but rather is a behind-the-scene look at the making of "Evil Dead 2". Some really great stuff!!!!!

I would say that even if Elite had just released the movie on laserdisc, it still would have been worth it, but with all these extras it going to be hard to top "Evil Dead 2" this year (checkout GrindHouse's SE Cannibal Ferox LD). Bravo, Elite. Now, if only they would get the rights to "Evil Dead", I would be in paradise, but till than I still have my crappy Japanese laser.
