Demonic (2015) Review:
Demonic is another of these movies featuring a team of paranormal investigators trying to catch ghosts on tape in a haunted house, a concept that we have seen too many times already (Grave Encounters, Apartment 143, etc.). Luckily, this movie is pretty well-done here and, thanks to a good directing and a good story-telling, ends up really enjoying.
Talking about “storytelling” is not exactly what I mean – the script is very generic and reeks of déjà-vu, but the way the movie is put together manages to create a good enough suspense around who the killer might actually be. Most importantly, the ending is really good (something unusual in this type of movie).
Probably what sets Demonic apart from the movies cited above is that it is finally not a found footage (although it incorporates many hand camera shots)! It is still immersive and there are a few good scares in it. Although predictable for the most part, they managed to get me pretty much every time.
In conclusion, Demonic is a very generic haunted house movie but one that was made with talent, and does bring its lot of scary moments.
