It’s not that long ago that the idea of cryptocurrency seemed like something straight out of a science fiction movie. Not many people would have predicted it would stick around, become legitimate, and even mainstream, but that is exactly the route that it is taking.
And, there is a no bigger example of just how mainstream crypto has gone than with the news that the e-currency has now funded a movie! That’s right, crypto has gone mainstream and dipped its toes into the entertainment industry.
Getting into the Horror Movie Genre
For fans of the horror movie genre, you may be interested to learn that it’s bitcoin that has helped to produce a new offering in the genre. The movie, We Summon the Darkness was in fact produced by Litecoin community member, @CommonEnemyInc.
Released on April 10, 2020, this one really took a lot of people by surprise in the industry. Considering Hollywood has a whole list of the “typical” players in the entertainment industry, the fact that cryptocurrency has now waded into the waters with fresh ideas, funds, and faces could be enough to shake up the industry a bit.
Not Your Typical Horror Movie
Even though the movie was released earlier in the year, now that we are in October and the month of Halloween, there is a real interest in horror movies. While the classics are always fun, it’s also exciting to have something new to check out and jump on, so for those who didn’t see it back in April, now may be the time to finally watch it.
We Summon the Darkness begins with three teenage girlfriends that have taken off on a road trip. They are heading to a heavy metal gig, but things of course don’t go the way they had planned. Isn’t that the case with so many horror movies? Along the way, they encounter satanic killers and plenty of horrifying moments that throw their plans of attending that music gig right out the door.
What makes this film so intriguing and frankly quite scary is the fact that there is a real psychological plot and twist. It’s not just about the images you’re seeing on-screen, it’s also about what you aren’t seeing. Your brain will be racing to pick up clues, piece them together, and make sense of this road trip from hell before anything else can scare you.
The film stars Alexandra Daddario, Amy Forsyth, and Maddie Hasson as the three friends who set off on their journey. Also in the movie is the well-known Johnny Knoxville from Jackass. It is meant to take place in the 1980s, so you also get that real retro vibe throughout, which frankly just helps to add to the fun and mystery of it all.
Could It Be the Start of a New Trend?
So, while things like bitcoin games have certainly been growing in popularity as of late, the fact that cryptocurrency is now entering into the entertainment industry could signal the start of a whole new trend.
